Imports of Brazilian leather by Mexico grew 157.9% from January to August 2023 in weight. Highly industrialized and with relevant figures in footwear, upholstery and automobiles production, Mexico is the next destination of the Brazilian Leather project – a partnership between the Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry (CICB) and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil). In Mexico, Brazilians will exhibit at the ANPIC fair, between the 25th and 27th of October, in León. Then, the Brazilian group will be part of a trade mission, with business rounds and technical visits.

The Brazilian exhibitors supported by the Brazilian Leather project at ANPIC are: Best Brasil, Nimo, Mastrotto Brasil, Viposa, Pacific Leather and Curtume Partner. “These companies can supply different types of leather, from wet blue to finished, for many kinds of industries. This profile shows that Mexico has potential for all our products”, highlights Rogério Cunha, from CICB Trade Intelligence, who will accompany the group at the fair.

Regarding footwear production: Mexicans are in 9th place in the world ranking, with 205 million pairs produced annually (2022 data); out of these, 32 million pairs are exported (7% of which are made of leather). Brazil is the main supplier of leather to Mexico, with a share of 32.9%. The automotive industry in the country (estimated at US$ 78 billion in 2020) produces some of the most important global vehicle brands.

At ANPIC, Brazilian exhibitors will have the opportunity to get in touch with new buyers and expand relationships with traditional customers. The fair is the largest of its segment in the country, bringing together all the decision-makers in the nation’s footwear industry. This is precisely why the fair takes place in León, the main center of intelligence and peer production in Mexico. ANPIC exhibits, in addition to leathers, chemicals, machines and other materials for the production of footwear, with trend areas and lectures, for visitors from more than 30 countries.

Brazilian leather will also be represented at the fair with an exclusive institutional stand, which will showcase leathers from the latest Preview do Couro collection. These are skins from different tanneries in Brazil, with special developments and anticipating fashion trends. It is another channel to share the talent, knowledge and sustainability of the Brazilian leather industry in Mexico.

After ANPIC, part of the group from Brazil will participate in a Trade Mission in León and Guadalajara. Technical visits are scheduled to companies in the footwear and upholstery segments and a morning with business rounds with local leather importers.
